I don't usually donate to causes and I almost never suggest others to, but Wikipedia is an exception. I donated, and I suggest you to do the same if you find the site useful.

They've been soliciting for quite a while. What prompted the decision?

Wiki is the only one I've sometimes considering supporting.

It is near the top when it comes to domain traffic, but does not advertise or require payment, which is extremely impressive.

Not allowed to use Wikipedia for uni but I look at it anyway for general summaries on things. And for links to articles. Unfortunately the only one I can donate to is myself.

I saw their notice and thought "why not?" I use Wikipedia all the time. They have a sister site, Wikibooks, with several free online reference books that I use and sometimes contribute to.

It's one of the very few sites I would consider donating to.

I am always out of money by the end of the month, so sacrificing 100 krones to any cause, means being out of money one day before usual, which nothing but sucks.

Being broke sucks :(

I am desperately hoping for an approval of my disability application - and I am then hoping desperately that an approval will signify enough of a payment to be able to actually put some money aside o_-

Yeah, good luck, Zegh.

I didn't want to imply anything with this thread, btw, so maybe I should add that donate if you are able to. Not everyone can, which is another reason to why open source is such a great thing.

Thanx :]

And no, I think this is a good thread, since, like I said, I had the same thought often - that if there's an internet site deserving in donations, it is Wikipedia, and I've often felt like a vulture when they are asking for even small coin, and I click it away and continue my search :D

Just yesterday a fb-buddy asked openly on his page, for any donation to help him get back home, after having been dumped during an abroad visit (jeez... ), he assured everyone humble he would pay them back, he just didn't feel like staying stranded on a foreign continent :D and again, a type of moment where I would gladly have scrificed a bit of funds IF I had any :D

As well as two-three weeks ago, a Red Cross person stopped me, to ask me what I knew about the Red Cross. Oh, I know! I know some shit. I'm aspie. I know! Impressed her to bits - and then came the big question, how much can I donate on a monthy basis? I hate that moment... especially cus of this public idea that nobody in Norway has little money. You ask them again, and they'll go "well, sure, SOME people are poor. I've read about it in the newspapers." and they imagine Norwegian poor people like some sort of chupacabra, a being that can only be spotted when the moon is up, or something. I bet even Sweden has a more realistic view on that.
Just some weeks before that again, I had to explain myself, like, the Red Cross lady accpted the fact that a guy stuck in a red-tape disability loop ain't gonna afford donating his money away, but a guy before that didn't accept that so easily, and wanted me to explain to him how come I don't have enough money. Basically, the idea of a broke Norwegian was new to him, it baffled him, and he wanted me to convince him.

My main thougth is - I hope someone else donates plenty! :D

More than once, I've told them "dude, look at my hair!" as an argument that I am not one of money. They probably think it's my personal style or somthing.

Wikipedia is one of the very few sites I would ever dream of helping out in any way. Well, apart from the ones I own. :P

Funny thing is, after donating to them the other day and then surfing to it later, I again got the little donation reminder (they don't store the donator info in a cookie, apparently), and I felt guilty.

Why would that make you feel guilty?
