And a parsnip in a pear tree
« on: December 26, 2016, 01:42:34 AM »
the title of this thread is what happened to come out (entirely by accident)  as I gazed at the contents of the fridge (parsnips, amongst other things) whilst singing "the twelve days of Christmas"  . i kinda like it. it's a tad more surreal than the original , isn't it?

Anyways, encouraged by little fit of accidental creativity, i proceeded to entertain myself and long-suffering son with further variants, including a whole rash of hitherto -unknown additional verses. Here are my favourites (but then I'm a weirdo, ya know?)

"On the nth day of  Christmas my true love sent to me...Heisenberg's s Uncertainty Principle " Yeah, yeah, I know that doesn't scan , but hey ! I challenge you to sing it aloud without sounding uncertain.

"On the LAST day " [ deep, doom-laden voice here, please]" of Chrismas my true love sent to me....a bang, not a whimper"

Ooooh dooooom. I like doom :)  What else can we do that's doomy? Ah, I know..

"On the thirteenth day of Christmas , my true love sent to me....the WRONG tarot card,
Better start again, count backwards , here's the Fool again ,
And a parsniiiiiip in a pear tree "

(to really appreciate that verse , though you have to know that card no 13 is Death and  the first card is the Fool) .

Hey! and all without touching a drop of liquor! i don't need to drink to get tipsy, I really don't :)

Any further ideas for extra verses , folks?

In Year 6 at school, we did the Australian version of that tune. I really don't remember much of it except "Eleven numbats nagging" - I and a friend were numbats. Her mum made us the coolest numbat costumes as well. Good memories.

I do love that show.  Bryan Cranston's work is outstanding. :heisenberg:
