Its weirdly familiar. First thing this guy sees is a girl drowning in a river and the rest of them ignoring it. Then he tries talking to them(this video) and finds out they're absolutely ignorant. Then he discovers they're cattle that a race of cave dwellers raise. Quote from the movie:

George: "The morlocks? Who are the morlocks? Are they animals or people?"

Weena: "They give us the food we eat and the clothes we wear. We must obey their command."
