Gold certainly has a massive use-consumer electronics. Gold is extremely conductive, and is used as such sometimes such as for computer boards where speed is of importance. And whilst pricy, silver is actually THE most conductive metal.
Beyond the pale. Way, way beyond the pale.

After the grid goes down, the most valuable metals won't be the pretty ones, but the useful ones.  Gold will plummet, Silver, Neodymium and Vanadium will skyrocket.

Its not as commonly useful as things like food though.

Much easier to store, stockpile and trade though.

I'll invest in silver, you can invest in eggs and milk  :hahaha:

I was arguing that food may be a superior base for currency than silver, Possum.

During a massive famine, you can't eat silver.

One can I guess, cast bullets or blades from it, and use them on somebody who has food, either to part with the metal in exchange, or exchange it with them in the head :P

And possum ain't wrong.  I was after some niobium, just pricing it up on ebay....and all I could find was some pretty fucking anodized shite. I wanted something fit for a superconducting RF resonant cavity, but its all pretty garbage green and pinkish.

Oh I am aware. I was being facetious really. Most wouldn't know what to DO with one.

Or have either their own lab, or their father having their own extremely well equipped toolshed (full set of wood and metal-working tools, plus an old, but fully functional capstan lathe...almost certainly pre-WWII as it was old when my father used it in his apprenticeship, plus a sealed electronics room w/ his oscilloscopes, computer, etc. and grounded electronics bench. The sort of power supplies I might work with,  if using a pulsed power source are often quite adequate to kill somebody at a fraction of the capacitance; and non-fatal shocks can REALLY hurt.

Having, in childhood ignorance, taken a piss while hiking, not knowing then what a cattle shock fence was, its like getting smacked everywhere at once with a REALLY big buggering sledgehammer, if you have nothing BUT a pair of nadgers to be whacked upside all at once.

At the end of the day, a starving person would give you all the silver and gold they have, just to have a bite to eat. Starvation drives people insane. Just a thought.

You can purify water. I had posted a guide on that and other things in elders.

Interesting. Do you find it acceptable to ration and sell water? How about air? I'm not attacking you here, man. I just wonder how you feel about that.
