What is the most unusual thing you have seen?
« on: September 02, 2013, 08:32:59 PM »
It could be anything really. I think the most unusual thing I have seen is thundersnow. That's a thunderstorm that snows instead of rains. It was trippy! because everything was white already and then to have it flash like that, made it seem like outer space. or going through a worm hole.

Well, today I saw a roseate spoonbill in the drainage canal near our house.  I'd seen other wading birds before, mostly herons and egrets.  Lots of turtles sunning on various whatevers in the water.  Here's a photo of a roseate spoonbill.

It's probably because they produce the fastfood version of Garum, eating all those shrimp like creatures.

Garum was  :viking:

The most unusual thing I have ever seen was the great tit, who hit the window one very cold January day. He couldn't fly for months but survived in a hole in the snow. Every morning he kind of "trained" flying. After three months he could fly again.

One of his kids was killed in a gruesome way by a woodpecker the same summer, though. There is no justice in this shitworld, not even for small birds  :(

One time whilst camping up in wales, forget where now, just some campsite, the field we were staying in had one corner fenced off to give approximately a sqiare meter.

Inside that space on the ground, was the most perculiar......well I can only picture it being some sort of fungus. A giant Myxomycete perhaps (slime mold), or other slime fungi. Only slime fungi are usually small, egg sized at the biggest. This was gelatinous, slightly translucent, white, and around a foot and a bit accross.

Weird as shit that it was fenced in in that manner. I WISH I had at the time, had both my usual sample vials and mycological diagnostic chemical reagent kit, and not least, my 2000x magnification pathology microscope; although I'd not bought that yet at the time. I'd have loved the ident challenge thrown at me.  I've been on countless mushroom hunting trips, from which over the years, I must have eaten big black plastic wheeliebin disposal bags literally chock full of the most delicious, weird and wonderful fungi, but I have NEVER seen anything even remotely like that slime blob. Well, seen slime fungi yes, but never over a foot fucking wide and several inches thick.

Fly Geyser in Nevada is also very weird looking. although, very cool.

It isn't a natural feature, but a man made one. The guy who owns the land its on is a real prick though, he never lets anyone see it!

The top of an industrial oil tank about 12 feet in diameter flying through the air like a Frisbee and land in a parking lot not that far from where I was loading a truck.  They had been demoing the tank when sparks ignited the vapors in it and BOOM.  It looked fake as hell they do a much better job in the movies

I once saw the worlds largest colon on display in a Ripley's museum. It was filled with over 40 pounds of shit, and evidentially killed its owner. :zombiefuck:

An oil depot fire with roughly two dozen tanks in flames. Happened in Kokkola in Finland when I was about eight or nine.
