One time whilst camping up in wales, forget where now, just some campsite, the field we were staying in had one corner fenced off to give approximately a sqiare meter.
Inside that space on the ground, was the most perculiar......well I can only picture it being some sort of fungus. A giant Myxomycete perhaps (slime mold), or other slime fungi. Only slime fungi are usually small, egg sized at the biggest. This was gelatinous, slightly translucent, white, and around a foot and a bit accross.
Weird as shit that it was fenced in in that manner. I WISH I had at the time, had both my usual sample vials and mycological diagnostic chemical reagent kit, and not least, my 2000x magnification pathology microscope; although I'd not bought that yet at the time. I'd have loved the ident challenge thrown at me. I've been on countless mushroom hunting trips, from which over the years, I must have eaten big black plastic wheeliebin disposal bags literally chock full of the most delicious, weird and wonderful fungi, but I have NEVER seen anything even remotely like that slime blob. Well, seen slime fungi yes, but never over a foot fucking wide and several inches thick.
