The people from Egypt I spoke with see that very differently. They think that our government calls it a coup in order to make it seem as though their government was being attacked by criminals. They are very upset about it, actually.

It is a benevolent coup, still a coup. If soldiers do it, be they alturistic or cruel, it will be defined as a military coup. Semantics. I do however agree with you that the attitudes that follow, are very based in the official political line of whatever ruling gvt.

Look at international reactions to certain world events, and spot the differences, it's quite interesting.
Latin-American countries tend to respond to terrorist actions with words as "we grieve" "losses" "pain" "injured" "families"
while west-European and Americans use words like "condemn" "cowardly act" "justice"
these aren't coincidences

Indeed. Revolution is the word used by Egyptians to describe this event. They hate morsi with a passion.

Revolution and coup do not negate each others. Many revolutions use a coup as one of the tools at disposal. I know that Egyptians mostly consider this a benevolent coup, that's also why I suggest you try to compare countries reactions to things, it can be interesting.
For example, as much as US and Norway are allies, Norway officially recognizes Palestine as a state, while the US does not. The reactions will always vary because of that, since Norway will have obligated itself to refer to Palestinian happenings as if they are a legitimate nation, so - Israeli air-raids are defined as a cross-national confrontation.
While the US, who does not regard Palestine as a real, sovereign entity, and rather a part to be administered by Israel, they will comment on similar events as if they were internal matters, state vs rebels.

Obviously, a consequence is that American civilians have an image of scruffy rebels in their minds, while Norwegian citizens have an image of uniformed, "proper" Palestinian police and security.

As usual - we're having one, unchangeable, undeniable world event (Palestinian police officers - or whatever you choose to call them - were involved in, and casualties of, Israeli ground movements into the Gaza strip some years back), but completely different perceptions as to what happened. Ironically, "what happened" is the key of the event, it's what makes the event matter.

The Egyptians are openly scrutinizing Obama's work. They are calling him mentally retarded, praying to their god that he dies, etc. I don't hope he dies, but I do agree with a lot of what they're saying.

Dude, welcome to 1990, and 1960 and 1980 and etc :D
"We bring truth and freedom, to... Grenada! Here we go!"
"Truth and freedom to - Panama, go go go!"

Ask what Chileans think of American truth and freedom

Obama-schmobama I say, but with a republican we'd be looking at full scale invasions of Somalia and or Sudan and or Iran and or some other ridiculous disaster.
What needs cleaning up is the base plan for all this, the dudes getting all the money. I stand on my opinion that you cannot eliminate the idea of a government - they can be benevolent, at least approximately so, you can see for yourself, the Egyptian military, military, seems at least to be trying to go into a right direction.

There are degrees of honesty in the running of a country

I personally don't see much hope, because humans aren't "written" or "set in stone", we are past several points of no return, we are based on so many weird accidents - consider that cities first came to exist, not because we wanted grain for bread, but because we yearned for year long entoxication by grain based alcohol (as opposed to being intoxicated only in fall time, intoxication here being immensely religious)
we're fucked up.
we're like mold with random weirdness sprayed on it.

Humans, biologically, are best ruled in small groups of 100-1000, with "elders" as "tribe leaders". Even there, there will be conflict, but that is biologically optimal for us.
The vast majority of world societies are impossibly far beyond any such optimal existence. People in ties. I've never met them. We're lucky we have anything to eat at all.

And, yes, we, most of us, the majority of this forum would just die if left to their own devices, me included, and probably you too :D Unless you resorted to cannibalism or something

Hm, yes, it does ring a bell. You're an animal >:I
It'd have to be properly cooked of course, that goes without saying, and has to do with digestion. Otherwise it would also be unecesarily savage imho

Dude, if I was starving to death and there was no game around I don't even know what i'd be capable of myself. I imagine i'd become pretty savage. I've been hungry before, and I know the brain starts working pretty different when your belly has been empty for a while.

Today, a US. President talked to an Iranian president for the first time since 1979.

The UN agreed to take Syrias chemical weapons. Russia even voted yes.

Diplomacy over war.
Misunderstood.
