38 slaves :zombiefuck: :zombiefuck: :zombiefuck:

Ive never paid for sex, but I view porn too

I wonder if there is an organisation which identifies and certifies "fair porn"...like "fair trade". If our bloody law makers weren't so fucking taboo about paying for sex and viewing porn, we might have the industry better regulated.

 :indeed:

Fair Trade porn for all :2thumbsup: :2thumbsup: :2thumbsup:

That's precisely the point.
Yes, a roman coin was made by a slave, therefore it was made by a slave. it doesn't end.

If a company was upstarted with slave labour, it doesn't matter how many years since they stopped the practice, they were still upstarted by slave labour and cannot simply wash their hands of it because time had passed.

When someone is enslaved a horrible imbalance is inflicted upon the society involved, and the repercussions of that do not automatically re-adjust. All the effort that went into maintaining someones subjectivity, into destroying their spirit of rebellion, into breaking down and limiting their self confidence- a shit ton of effort was put into that. It wasn't just whips and branding, it was a psychological game, and that game was embedded into their daily routine and culture. That entire society began to change and adjust to reflect that imbalance, to maintain that slave-master relationship.

Unless the exact same effort is put into re-establishing the balance, into destroying the master-slave cultural connotation...unless that happens, the imbalance remains, and the effects of slavery continue to be felt....generations can pass, and it will still be felt and remembered. It will not go away. UNLESS that same blood and sweat and time and effort is put into establishing a culture of respect and brother/sisterhood, as it should be.

Using that logic I would venture to say there is very little in the world that would not be tainted.  Pulling the historical argument into it creates a mess and distracts from what is happening now, yes it's important to have that perspective  but how far back do you go?

Apparently, 40 slaves work for me, but I kinda estimated a lot instead of thinking and counting.

I think you'd fit in a 12" or at least a 16" firework mortar
You win this thread because that's most unsettling to even think about.

Did anyone find the site the least bit interesting?

Of course you can't know how many slaves "work for you". It's a hypothetical game to raise awareness (not entirely fiction), with facts and tid bits along the way meant to turn your stomach.

They even state they make huge assumptions, and fail to include the sex question.

The point was to learn about how many things in the world still benefit from forced labour, and that slavery is definitely not gone. In fact it keeps reappearing each century, transmorphed and engaging a new generation of disadvantaged people. So we obviously haven't done a good job abolishing it. That's the point.

You can go one living, shrugging your shoulders about it, saying everything is tainted anyways, or you can think about where your products come from, and care. I'd rather care and be frustrated and angry about it, than live comfortably in a world run in large part on slave labour. Whether the slaves are two states away from me, or two continents away from me, it seems the right thing to do is CARE.

Can't you guys even just imagine it?

Forget practicality, or your experience....can you just....imagine?

It's there. It always was.

It says 32, though I doubt that my Swedish wooden shoes were made by slaves, or my Swedish furniture.

I do find the topic interesting what I object to is the  guilt trip activism that so many of these sites employ and the way many of them play fast and loose with the facts and figures. I find it condescending and feel it does more to push people way from the issue.

In other news on the issue this was just a month or so  ago just across Long Island Sound from me

7-Eleven Store Owners Accused of Subjecting Immigrants to Modern-Day Slavery
Federal prosecutors are accusing the owners of more than a dozen 7-Eleven convenience store franchises of imposing a system of modern-day slavery against undocumented workers. U.S. authorities seized 14 stores in New York and Virginia, while dozens more remain under investigation. According to prosecutor Loretta Lynch, many of the workers targeted were from Pakistan and the Philippines.

We have that in Sweden too, although here it's usually Russians, Poles or people from the Baltic states working illegally for a better pay than they have in their own countries but way below the poorest Swedish worker.

I got 17, although as others have said, it's very unlikely to be accurate )whther I estimated too low or two high, or details about each thing)

I found it interesting though, and for the people complaining about it not being accurate etc - i'm sure it's mainly about raising awareness and getting you to THINK about what you buy/use. Not about being a technically correct analyisis

Then it should be called, 'How many slaves could possibly work for you?', raising awareness with technically incorrect analysis and all.
