I'd rather have healthcare than a gun  :2thumbsup:

To hell with free healthcare, or free anything from the government. This implies overdeveloped government, and I oppose is with every fiber of my being. Self reliance is best.

Self reliance can only get so far, but there are benefits of safety nets (ie. free healthcare, welfare) if things go tits up.

For myself, I find my disability allowance quite useful for my college education. I don't have to worry about travel costs either since I have a free travel pass too. However, I am more than ready to give both up for a job (in fact that's my objective when I leave college), but without such support I would be fucked.

Dude, that's just complete and utter bullshit. If the disability and welfare systems weren't completely swamped with lazy pieces of shit, you could get plenty far on your own merit.

That's just how it should be. Fit for work, don't want to? Wanna be a spoiled brat? Fine, then starve to death. There is nothing wrong with honesty, and letting lazy or criminal people deal with the personal responsibility of their actions.

That's not to say that people that are actually not fit for work should get a helping hand, but the entirety of America almost is a welfare state, and its put the honest folk in the poorhouse.

You said nothing should be free though, so how does that work?
You seem to agree that the vulnerable in society deserve to be helped, but that's what the welfare state is there for. Yet you also seem to be saying you're against it altogether.

And what about the people who are INCAPABLE of self reliance? Fuck them?

That sounds like a horrible society to live in. We should always protect those who are the most vulnerable

No. You throw the ones who are not incapable into the street until they learn their lesson. The ones that ARE incapable, get disability. Because that's who it was meant for in the first place.

I'm against EVERYONE getting it, you asshole. If someone is capable of functioning without it, they are simply not allowed to be such an overgrown baby. I REFUSE to pay for them. Period.

Its not free. We ALL pay for it. And I will not let that happen when I know over a million people in this country are just deadweight lazy pieces of shit, taking advantage. They can just starve if they want to be lazy.

Based on conversations with several ISPs, Open Rights Group says the new "parental controls" will reach far beyond pornography. By default, the controls will block access to "violent material," "extremist and terrorist related content," "anorexia and eating disorder websites," and "suicide related websites."

I have read this several places but the link is to The Huffington Post and was easy to find again.

United Kingdom Prime Minister David Cameron's orders regarding a hardcore porn filter had hardly finished echoing through mass media when hackers released a way around the filter.

"It’s called Immunicity — and it’ll crack Cameron’s porn filter too," writes Andy at the website TorrentFreak.com.

Immunicity is a piece of software that automatically unblocks certain content on the Internet.

Ways around it are showing up in the press.  I guess they never heard of TOR or proxies but it's nice they are showing the futility of it

No. I am firmly against Obamafuckingshitcare, because it would make it illegal not to have healthcare, which would increase the tax burden on everyone who works.

I am not against disabled people getting the disability benefits they require, but we already have that program. Its already HEAVILY strained by lazyasses taking advantage of it. We don't need to invite MORE of that behavior. We need to fix the system we already have. Kick the people who are just lazy out on the street, let them learn their lesson and buckle down, or starve to death. Either way, the burden will be removed. Well, some of it. We still have the bastardized American upper crust aristocrat wannabes to get rid of.

You could force some of the über-rich bastards to pay considerably more tax. That's the way Swedish social security is paid for, although almost everyone here pays at least 30-40% income tax.

I agree. I've always said that you don't need to own half the resources in an entire country just to be, "rich", so as you become more wealthy, there should be an increasing amount of tax that you have to pay, till the point where you become a billionare, then your tax begins to increase exponentially as your wealth increases until it is impossible to advance.

Personally, I think you can save more money by stopping all these nonsence wars around the globe. how much have we spent in Iraq, Afganistan and being the worlds cop? A trillion fucking dollars? Then after that lets end all corporate welfare, that's probably another goddamn trillion dollars right there

I do agree with having a small government, but people receiving money for disability are not bankrupting the system.
Wars, and Corporate welfare are.

I agree with progressive taxation. The problem is that people look at how much is being taxed, rather than how much is left after tx is taken off. If you're so rich that you don't even notice the fucking tax, whats the problem? Selfish cunts. If you're STILL left with millions/billions after tax has been deducted, then it wasnt "too much" tax at all.

It's barely a welfare state.

Besides, even if people are fit for work, do you really think in today's society it's so easy to find a job? I've seen people with degrees stay on welfare for example, simply because it was almost impossible for them to find work. On top of that, do you know the statistics of people exploiting welfare in order to remain lazy?

I would agree that someone exploiting it for free money is bad, but it's really not a black and white issue. Too many variables in the mix. The only solution is to try and cut down on people exploiting it, rather than taking it off everyone.

Sorry, but you're talking bullshit. We depend on one another in today's society to the point that proper self-reliance is impossible. Imposing self-reliance is not fair system for the people who can't stand a chance without some help.

As for saying it's okay for disabled and unfit people to work to get welfare, doesn't that contradict your views on self reliance?

I know and Aspie guy with two university degrees. It took him many years to get a job, and it was just pure luck. He didn't get a job in any of those fields where he has his degrees.

I would agree, but I don't see the problem of people being richer than others either. If I were a millionaire, I would gladly pay increased taxes, but at the same time I don't want it *too* high.

The main problem is how they get rich though and their attitudes about it, which does piss me off. I'd rather someone gets rich by legitimate reasons, rather than out of dodgy dealings and exploitation.

I see no problem with people being rich either, so long as they pay high taxes and don't do dodgy deals like you said, yeh.

There are rich people like J K Rowling who have the right idea on welfare, tax etc

this is a great quote:

Quote
I chose to remain a domiciled taxpayer for a couple of reasons. The main one was that I wanted my children to grow up where I grew up, to have proper roots in a culture as old and magnificent as Britain’s; to be citizens, with everything that implies, of a real country, not free-floating ex-pats, living in the limbo of some tax haven and associating only with the children of similarly greedy tax exiles.

A second reason, however, was that I am indebted to the British welfare state; the very one that Mr Cameron would like to replace with charity handouts. When my life hit rock bottom, that safety net, threadbare though it had become under John Major’s Government, was there to break the fall. I cannot help feeling, therefore, that it would have been contemptible to scarper for the West Indies at the first sniff of a seven-figure royalty cheque. This, if you like, is my notion of patriotism. On the available evidence, I suspect that it is Lord Ashcroft’s idea of being a mug
