At least there are very few trees left to fall on my street. We lost some in the ice storm of December '08,
and a bunch more were cut down the following year during an infestation of Asian longhorned beetles.
So maybe this time I won't lose power.   :chin:

It's not necessarily the close neighborhood that determines if you lose power.  We came back from 6 weeks away in Katrina to find the icecubes had just barely melted in our freezer.  Which meant we were probably without power for about 24 hours.  After we were home for a week we lost power again when a branch fell on the power line at the closest intersection.  The electic company had power restored within 30 minutes.  A neighbor asked how come it was restored so quickly when some people were still without power from Katrina.  Seems we're on the feeder line to the waste water treatment plant (about a mile away), which is considered a necessary service and is one of the first things to have power restored.

Advice I correlated from this:  When looking for a residence call the power company and find out where the feeder lines (hospital, city hall, prison, etc.) are if you want to have electricity pronto.

:plus:   for useful info. If I do lose power this time, maybe it won't be for five days like last time!

Not sure what the weather is like now. I've been in a dark booth all day.

Thank fuck in a bucket I do not live in teh north east, because the weather here is horrible, enough.

A really stupid thing I did:

I came in this morning and went to rest a bit after clearing my car to drive (about five thirty AM), only to find a message on my phone that we were gooing to be delayed by an hour, so I had until seven AM to be a t work. HELL!!   That means at least another cup of coffee, before I have to jump around and shit.

After a bit I found that my pocket and the entire right eighth of my parka was wet - I could not figure out how such as that could happpen.   After coming in, done with work, just about an hour ago - I solved the mystery of the wet parka - making my other car ready to pick up my wife from the hospital in her own car, histerically, I found about ten pounds of slab ice in my parka pocket that had fallen off one of my cars straight into the pocket of my parka.  LOL

Had it all melted in my pocket, I would have had as wet a pocket as I had had this morning.

:mystery solved:

Icy here too but I live less than a mile from a hospital and almost never lose power even if I do I have a generator I use for work I can hook up to

It's cold, though I don't know how  cold because I'm too chickenshit to venture outside onto the icy steps!
