I'm really confused. I thought the rain today was from whateverthehell Barry is. It may be, but Barry isn't predicted to make landfall until late Thursday, early Friday about 90 miles west of New Orleans. Everything is quiet now. 100% cloud cover. They are making a mandatory evacuation of the East Bank of the parish (Plaquemine) that is the bottom of the Mississippi River on Thursday afternoon. Their levees will be overtopped by the storm surge. It's just a sliver mostly uninhabited land so hopefully the damage will be minimal. I audited the parish government and the levee district years ago. Really weird to be driving down to Pointe-a-la-Hache with a towering levee on the west side of River Road and the Gulf of Mexico visible less than a mile away to the east.
The more I think about it the more I realize I live in a unique part of the world. Civilization and wilderness less than an hour apart.
