Hello.... is this.... is this.... is this Danny?

An old lady kept calling me along time ago, she kept asking me if the phone number was Danny's and I told her so many times that it was not.

Yet to this day, I wonder what happened to her.

Shes probably resting underground by now.

We got Mabel's misdialed numbers for approx. 20 years (ours was just one number off), asked the caller one day exactly how was Mabel? Doing fine and in her 80's at the time. I'm sure she's gone now, almost felt like family after awhile.

I used to volunteer at an old folks home near my high school... I had to deal with residents similar to her all the time.

I remember Grandma Teenie getting upset at the recorded messages (The number you have dialed.........) on the phone.  "That damn woman never takes any time off.  She's always telling me........."

Our phone number is ...-7954 while a local pharmacy is ...-1954.  After the years we get fewer misdials from patients, but are starting to get them from other pharmacies in the chain.

It just gets confusing for them... sometimes they don't know how to handle it.

I do not do well on the phone.  There is nothing to focus on and I tend to just tune out the conversation.  I must do something right because no one has ever called me on it.  I've talked for 30 minutes sometimes and can't tell you a single thing the other person said past "Hello".  I suppose I seem to do better than I actually do because I "smile" while I'm talking.  Sounds enthusiastic, happy, interested in the other person.

Long time ago, we had a new phonenumber. It had been the phonenumber to call in for complaints about your cable connection before that. AAAAAARRRRCCCHHHH. We had no TV, but we always could tell when the cable connection was shite.

My brother's phonenumber is similar to the phonenumber of the local dentist. Their surnames are the same. That brings him very funny conversations now and then. People who will not listen to him, he'll tell that he can do some pulling too, with the toys he has. (He's into road construction and bio cleansing of gas stations)

When I first went to start my own business I got an additional  line installed at the house but ended up delaying the start for about three months during which no phone was on that line.  When I did hook one up I began getting calls for a couple who lived across town who declared bankruptcy,  I had already had the number in the phone book and on cards and other advertising so I didn't want to give it up and figured it would blow over soon enough.  I was wrong,  they would call and insist I was lying about my name and not knowing them.   After a  year  they tapered off but then there would be waves of them as I assume companies sold the dept to another collection company.  The last one was maybe after I had the number for about 8 years.

I had mail for people on an address I knew other people lived. So, I rang the doorbell and asked. They had been returning that kind of mail for over twenty years now, but still got mail from that sender.

I guess people have a funny way of looking at things.
