I always offer my seat to old people
Would do the same for pregnant women, little kids etc too.
It's difficult to know whether you "should" sometimes though. As in some women would take offence to being offered a seat, and maybe some disabled people would too?
Offering your seat to old ladies or pregnant women / women with babies though? That's always safe and everyone should do that
tbh I'd rather stand in that situation anyway. Unless all the people standing were other young guys, then I'd feel slightly uncomfrotable sitting down while others had to stand.
Also I can handle fairly long journeys stood up so it's not a major inconvenience for me. I once gave my seat up to an old lady on the train down from Edinburgh to Manchester and had to stand/sit on my suitcase for most of the journey, and it wasn't as uncomfortable as I'd expected.
It pisses me off to see other young people sitting down in those situations tho, not offering their seats to older people or whatever. I know there can be "invisible reasons" ie a disablilty we can't see, but in most cases it's pretty obvious they just don't want to stand up for them. Which is sad. It's just common fucking decency.
