Very nice story. It would make a good comic strip :)
Can't you guys even just imagine it?

Forget practicality, or your experience....can you just....imagine?

It's there. It always was.

Do people really deliver papers on Christmas morning? What happened to his car?

Apparently he slid off the road and got stuck. It happens. Especially when getting behind the wheel while under the influence of alchohol. Was he an alchoholic, Zegh?

His car got stuck in the snow. It is easily loosened, with a bit of effort, but his dilemma was that he wouldn't be able to make his route in time.
And yes, they deliver newspapers on xmas morning. Mail too. It is common to leave a little xmas gift for them, people usually leave out 50 krones in an envelope or something. Which can be quite a loot for a broke-ass xmas-going paper delivery boy :D

What happened to his car afterward? Was the family mad he ditched everyone on Christmas morning?

His car was dug out later in the day, after he had studied hard. His family is probably back in Ghana or somewhere warm, where cars don't get stuck in snow. I bet he had allready sent them their xmas gift by then :M

He wasn't Santa, but probably one of Santas many helpers, put there in that place and time, to remind my stressed out uncle to remember about humanity, and the true meaning of christmas spirit!

Will just pretend the black guy was santa and your uncle helped him after his sleigh crash to deliver all the presents and save Christmas.

I am always wondering if the media manufactures empathy.  Like with the Boston bombing, people wondering if the city will "pull-through".   What the hell is that all about?  Is Boston going to kill itself?

A lot of that is said in respect to the victims.

It would be disrespectful to the victims to say "Well, that was that. Same old Boston by tomorrow!"
it is a social mannerism, a "ceremonial" thing to say.
Norway was full of it after Utøya, while MOST Norwegians were mostly just struck by morbid curiousity, rather than actual grief. It's rather unlikely for people to feel grief for someone they've never met, even if the incident was quite dramatic.
Media always talked about a devastated nation, crying its eyes out - FOR the victims sake, their families, rather than to bluntly go "Well shit happens, at least we can read about gory stuff in the newspapers now. Can't wait for the trial details!" which was the actual sentiment.
