Slow intensity or fast paced?
« on: April 11, 2013, 06:43:44 PM »
Which kind of a forum would you prefer intensity to be?

One where you can show up, maybe once or twice per day and spend about five minutes each time reading all the posts and replying to some.  One where you are able to establish more intimate relationships with the regular members because so few post on a day to day basis.

Or

One where there is lots of action.  You can stop by several times a day and find new posts to read.  One where it would be difficult to follow all the posts so you learn to follow only certain members or certain posts.  One where there is a more eclectic membership who posts on a variety of topics.  With increased membership and post count you can be assured that there will be more drama.  Does drama entertain you.

What say ye?

I like it either way. I do have a taste for drama. But it's hard to imagine it so busy I couldn't keep up with everything I wanted to read.

SKYBLUE:

Whatever your talking about...no!

I was wondering if the current membership liked it as it is or would like more action....as it says.
If they want more action then I was going to open a discussion about how to recruit new members.
I forgive you.

Like it a little busy. Miss reading a lot of posts when busy, but would rather miss some posts than read about the weather anyway.

Pyraxis, how fast can you read?

Too fast. And/or obsessively. But I don't read all the games threads.

yeah, I remember when we would consistently get over 500 post (or more) per day I would completely ignore the games threads. I would also avoid some users as well.  Good news for SKYBLUE1, she can just ignore me.

It is what it is.

If the members want a 500 posts/day board, they can get it by posting. That is not the issue. The question is if the pace is sustainable. In other words, more posts will entertain for a while and so more replies will be generated, but unless there is substance of some kind in the posts, the pace will not last.

Drama does not equal a sustainable pace. It causes peaks and lows, depending.

Variation is probably the key. If there is drama mixed with thoughtfulness, spam and whatever, it might work.

And, of course, there's only so much a handful of active posters can do. Even you, McJ, will not keep up posting in those numbers unless you get more of whatever it is that you want. Or think about Cal's recen posts; Cal pops up, briefly achieves his 30+ posts a day routine, then disappears.

What I want? Hang out with friends and acquaintances, I suppose. I2 is largely a virtual pub and that is how it works best for me.

I like a high volume of posts, but I have slowed down my own posting since joining.
I do think my recent posts have been entertaining.  :roses:  I am trying to do my share.

drama is unavoidable.  It will happen. Personalities clash. Some simply crave it.

More action doesn't necessarily mean lower quality posts.  I think it means more members  in a post friendly environment.  Feeling comfortable posting. A virtual pub in Ireland. On st Patrick's day?  Lol.
