A good part of my life has been spent watching little or no tv. A place I moved into in 2000 I hooked up free cable to and watched a lot. When that was shut off I paid for cable from 2002 to July 2006 when I got pissed off at the cable company and left it shut off until April 2009. Now I watch a lot of SYFY, Natgeo, Sci, Encore, Starz, IFC and HBO mostly. I like watching foreign films, especially French since I am too lazy to bother with my French lessons or download the Pimsleur Tagalog on my computer. I see bumper stickers that say Kill Your TV and figure motherfuckers who put that on their cars should look after their own lives and not concern themselves with how I waste my time.
If I had the drive to read and study more often I might turn off the cable. Not having tv didn't make me any smarter or a better person. I have done stupid things in years when I watched 40 hours or less of tv programming and I have done stupid things in years that I have watched 1000s of hours. I have also spent 19 hours out of a 24 hour day here waiting for a post to respond to or engaging in useless arguments. I like most of the members here so please don't read any tacit insult into that, a person's time will be as productive as they make it.
