In my native language, we call them "film"

"filmer" in plural. It is a word of Germanic origin, and has splintered and been passed back and forth.

"fille" is a cognate word, that means "rag"
"fell" means a coat of fur, be it on a living animal, or taken off it.

Both "film", "fell", and "fille" denote something flat.

I call them moving pictures.

Unless there's sound, then I call them "talkies".

That's what you call the radio
"Come, gather around! Let's sit down and listen to the talkie!"

The shit eating scene didn't bother me much. It's just the random stuff they did with no meaning that was creepy.

I understand it was meant to be symbolic, but I am shit with symbolism.

The movie is about the consumerist society. The shit is a symbol for junk food and vulgar culture.

The arbitrariness is to symbolize that no customs, no ideals, no logic exist in the consumerist society.
