Actually 12 gauge is impressive and the Remington 870 is a damn good pump. My own are a Winchester 1200 with front bead and a Benelli Supernova with ghost ring rear and post front slug sights. 9 pellets of 00 Buck are ~ 486 grains and a 1 ounce slug is 437.5 grains. An open choke 12 bore is .729" (18.5mm). Slugs typically expand over 1" (25.4mm for the Euros), the slug in this test broke into 3 segments, slugs in Marshall and Sanow tests generally stay together.  :dunno:

I've got an 870 as well, a Wingmaster. I've been thinking about selling it because it's only chambered for 23/4", would like a 3" or 31/2".

I like 2.75" loads myself, 3" kick like a motherfucker.  :thumbdn: Lots of places carry replacement 870 barrels and you may be able to get a lightly used one for not much money. It's not like shotgun barrels wear out.

Yes. On any pump shotguns just unload the gun, rack the slide back about 2", unscrew the magazine end cap nut, pull the barrel off and replace. BTW unlike this video you should be able to tighten and loose the barrel nut with hand pressure.

How do you clean it w/o the barrel off?

Just ran a swab down the barrel. I suppose I should take it apart and give it a good cleaning and oiling, it hasn't been fired in about ten years now.
