Our marching was taught to emphasize every other right step as one, two, three, FOUR! I have clomped around in loud boots in the past. Now I walk quietly unless I am making the effort to be loud.

This brings back PE memories. There it was "LEFT, two, three, four, LEFT, two, three, four, ...." Seemed like a never ending rhythmic stampede, on bare feet.
I hated PE.  :P

At least you had your hooves, to make your stampeding truly impressive!    :hyke:

Loud shoes are a sign of status and power. Notice how important people have loud shoes, that announce them as they arrive.

Actually, while in the military, they instructed us specifically to stomp every right-foot-step when marching, as it would create the illusion of a rumbling horde

But important individuals sortof try to achieve this on their own, with really hard shoes, that clap loudly against the floor.
They are also very slippery shoes
They're like - completely impractical - but that too symbolizes their status: They don't need to worry about the ice, because someone will sand or salt the ground before their feet, roll out a carpet, their own jacket, or lift the dignitary and carry him in their arms. Slippery shoes say: I don't need to give a shit.
For then to clap loudly when they walk away

I always wanted loud shoes
I would stomp around, with my imposing walk!

Lol my shoes are clacky. So yeah. And not only that, I polish them daily.

I wear trainers/jogging shoes.  Because I have a wide foot and I'm flat-footed it's hard to find a woman's shoe that will fit me correctly, so it's men's shoes for me.

I know what you mean about the loud shoes = status and power.  There is a regional director who visits our McDonalds occasionally.  He wears taps on his shoes.  So, when he's walking around you know it.  However, my g'friend and I get the giggles when we hear him.  It sounds so prissy and old-fashioned.

My feet are too small to fit in men's shoes, wide enough for them though.
I do sometimes find shoes in the kid's department. And, thank goodness, fashion is giving women a bit more space nowadays. It's not mainly Italian lasts any more. So, on a rare occasion, I can find shoes that even kinda look feminine.
My last shoes purchase was a pair of high hiking shoes.

In Japan, it is considered to be bad taste to wear loud shoes.
