i finally got the fucking nrg files to work. 

well, three out of the four.  it seems the first file is problematic, which is why i couldn't access it.  the other three work fine, so i'm trying something else to sort out the first file.

typical aspie - couldn't get past the first hurdle, even though the other ones were easy peasy. 

still, at least it means i'm not a total moron, as i was thinking i was.
