Not that I know of, but it is entirely possible, my mom's family has been in America for quite a few generations

The main reson for Federal "hate" crime legislation was due to a lack of fair law enforcement in the south. Those who beat, murder and terrorise minorities were rarely brought to justice. We can blame rednecks for these laws.
