So, this is where I am going to expound on (bitch about) the law

People can comment if they wish, maybe good conversation will ensue, maybe not.  I'm going to treat this thread like a Facebook page and post up articles on current events of the legal variety and bitch about them if I feel the need.  I have a crap-load of legal blogs I follow and some of the stuff is pretty good.  At the very least it might help the 2012 post count.

I'll open with John Roberts acting like an idiot.

My best guess is that things are still pretty tense at the conservative bloc Christmas party, and he is feeling the heat from Scalia.  Maybe if he shouts like a petulant child at the administration they will begin to forgive them for what they see as his terrible sin last year?

Russian online newspaper has an interesting idea

Personally, the idea of being forced to share something on Facebook in order to read the rest of an article would probably cause me to use a different news service, unless they were the only thing going.

I think John Roberts made a valid point.

Looking at what was written here, it did make it look like Elaine Chao changed her view, when the Secretary of Labor was actually a new person with a different view.  I think that when an attorney is presenting an argument to the Supreme Court, he is not doing himself any favors when he misrepresents the truth like he thinks the Justices aren't going to be smart enough to catch it.

The point is that the SC does the same thing all the time.  They refer to themselves as "the court" and "the court" has changed it's mind a lot over the past 236 years.  Nobody points out that "the court" has changed members constantly throughout that history, and that different people are actually changing their minds, not just the position.  Clearly nobody was trying to put a fast one by the SC as any 6th grader who completed social studies knows the cabinet has changed between Bush II and Obama.  It goes without saying.

I think Roberts synced up his cycle with Sotomayor and Kagan, and needs some Midol.

SCOTUS is acting like an old college roommate who just came out is inviting them to a gay bar, and they’re trying to politely decline without looking like raging homophobes

And the award for most backwards legal argument presented to SCOTUS this year goes to ...... Margie Phelps of the WBC.

The US government has a compelling interest in protecting the country from the wrath of a god who hates gay marriage.
