Bond is only ever as good as the scriptwriter allows him to be. I think Craig doesn't look like Bond, though, and doesn't act like Bond (except for that one scene in an elevator in the last film). He doesn't have the authority or the self-assurance, IMO. yes, it's the scriptwriter's responsibility, too, but if both are bad there's very little to do.

Which is why Dalton failed just as miserably.

As for Craig, he is better suited for the kind of character he played in Layer Cake. A bit player, seemingly smart but always unable to keep up with the big boys.

I like Craig.  It might be because he isn't terribly good yet.  It is the origin story after all.

Which is fine. I'm sure you'd have a blast with Craig. But Bond he is not.

Sean Connery is the definitive James Bond, IMO.

I love the way he said "Moneypenny."

My husband is a huge James Bond fan and I remember him telling me about one of Daniel Craig's lines in his first Bond film, which came out while he was traveling for work so he saw it without me.  He ordered a martini and the bartender asked him whether he wanted it shaken or stirred and he asked whether he looked like he gave a damn.  It made me want to see the movie.

Yeah Callaway you make a good point about the way Connery says certain things.  I automatically picture him when i hear the name Bond.  It is a shame his films seem so dated now.

Craig is good, though.  A rough diamond.  Needs a little polishing -  and it's a job i would be more than happy to assist him with :P

He won't ever be. He doesn't have what it takes.

You won't make him into Bond. You might make him housebroken. :P

BUT, Craig has the best ass I've EVER seen in jeans.  The walking away scene in Munich.  Triple drool.

I am not a Bond fan but I have seen a few scenes here and there.  To me, Moore is Bond because he is the first one I watched in the role.  Not too invested in that opinion though.   :cbc:
