The Tulip Touch

God, what a shitty, shitty book. Dull, predictable, poorly written.

Why was it never Tolkien, or Asimov, or Pratchett?  :thumbdn:
I tried reading a Terry Pratchett book and failed. I couldn't "see" anything properly. I guess I don't have the right kind of imagination to read his books.

Which one?

Night Watch is a good book to start with. I think I started with Reaper Man or Hogfather.

I tried The Colour of Magic. I had heard some good things about his books from someone at work so I wanted to get into them.

Pratchett is a kickarse writer IMO. The discworld books are funny as fuck; I appreciate his offbeat sense of humor.

A damn shame that he is terminal:(

He was  DX with Alzheimer's disease, the poor cunt.

Apparently he wants to die by suicide, when he is ready, before the Alzheimer's really takes hold. I don't blame him. My Nanna had Alzheimer's and it is a horrible way to go.

I would do the same. I'd not let myself rot alive in such away.

At least them I could make my end useful, and quick, making sure to take  as many of the old bill with me as possible..

Taking a whole year, reading "The Pearl" with the whole class (10 minutes a week or so), when we had not had most of the vocabulary used in that  book yet, made the Steinbeck work a dreadful thing.

Maybe I should try it again one day, when I have a couple of hours. Losing track of the story may be not bound to happen then.

You should.  It's an excellent little book.

CoM isn't a good place to start. His early books are not nearly as good as his mid-late stuff.

Try Night Watch, Lords and Ladies or....Feet of Clay, if you want to try his books again. Especially the first, it's my favourite Watch book. I think. Hard to say, actually, they're all pretty good.
