I'm getting a bit tired of laughing at stupid people.
They are constant reminders of my complete lack of faith, and that the world is here for no reason, and that there is nothing written anywhere guaranteeing the human race - in fact, most evidence, such as Richard, point to the opposite direction. We are random, we are error, and we are doomed
How are we doomed zeg? There have been claims from religious* people, the Mayan prophecy idiots and many others just in my 53 year lifetime that the end is nigh. It has not happened up to this point. I am not inclined to live my life as if I am doomed because others make that claim. Other than that carry on zeg.
*Hal Lindsey, Jehovah's Witnesses, Peoples Temple, Puputan, Heavens Gate, Branch Davidians, Solar Temple etc.
We are doomed to get nowhere, while following impossible dreams.
As a species we have been dreaming of "something higher" for thousands of years, and so far, all we have is more complicated stuff, fancyer clothes, and niftyer guns.
People keep talking about space exploration, but they are completely stumped when reminded of something as simple as light year distances, they begin to stutter about "white hole travel", then you remind them that nobody would survive that, and they stutter something about generational travel, but that is also simply impossible.
Even in theory it is only barely possible, in practice it wouldn't even last past our solar system.
We won't evolve into something "higher", that's not how evolution works, and unless people have a full and complete understanding of evolution, I
beg them not to argue that point, cus they'll equate evolution with wishful thinking "Sure! We will evolve bigger brains, higher capacity, more awesomeness!" No, no and no, we won't, "HOW DO
YOU KNOW!?" stfu and read about genetics.
If you remove spiritualist bullshit, wishful thinking, star trek and anything else that
simply isn't real then no, there is no particular hope for our species on this planet.
We will
drugde on. That is our best hope. Our greatest ambition can be something as down-to-earth and realistic as pasting a huge Pepsi ad on the moon.
