Felix Baumgartner
« on: October 14, 2012, 10:41:03 AM »
Here's a link to a real-time broadcast of Felix Baumgartner, who is attempting to set a world record with a 23 mile skydive, during which he will break the speed of sound.  His capsule is being pulled up to the stratosphere with an enormous helium balloon.

I personally think he's kind of crazy.  During his practice jump in July, which was over 90,000 feet, his hands were so cold in his specially designed spacesuit he could barely move them and he's going up to 120,000 feet this time.  He could die attempting this.

This is something I'd never do.  It's probably alright for the first 22 miles, but the Earth rushing up to me for the last mile?  No way.

Have they measured his IQ?  Is it bigger than his penis.  Who would fund this?  He can't possibly make too much money for doing this.  I mean, it's not like an Olympic Sport.

I have almost blown myself up once and another time I drove in 170 km/h through a narrow tunnel and then over a bridge in the night during a heavy rain.

Maybe he'll pack hand-warmers this time?

This jump will add to the knowledge base for the next generation of pressurised suits.

I think I heard them mention something about handwarmers, as a matter of fact.

He made it safely down, BTW.

I thought that it was pretty cool as well after he landed safely on his feet on the ground, but I was anxious for him when he started tumbling after he jumped.

He pulled his parachute cord a little too early to beat his mentor Joseph Kittinger's record for the longest free fall, but he beat other world's records for the highest manned balloon flight and the highest jump as well as the first person to exceed the speed of sound without being in some sort of vehicle.

Well, my personal prediction was wrong.  Got 2 seconds into it (literally) and had to look away.  Just can't tolerate falling.
