We all love the BBC.....right?
« on: October 10, 2012, 07:28:27 PM »
I don't.  I fucking hate the BBC.  I do understand why it is popular in other countries.  People in other countries don't have to pay a licence fee.

The day after 9/11 i got rid of my TV.  That shit just totally freaked me out. It occurred to me that i had spent hours of my life watching a box in the living room that spewed out bad news.  If it weren't news it was utter drivel like soap opera's.  I had enough.  So, i decided to get a life and the telly went in a neighbours skip.

I stopped paying the licence fee and was constantly harassed by letters and people coming to the door.  I informed the good old beeb that i didn't own a TV...lost count how many times i told them.  This went on for several years.  They are so far up their own arses they couldn't fathom that people live and breathe without their range of state supervised broadcasts.  One day i lost my rag with some tosser at the door who had got me out of the bath to ask me why i had not renewed my licence fee!  I am standing at the door with just a towel, dripping wet, and this bloke wanted me to let him in to satisfy him that i didn't own a telly.  I didn't.  I told him to fuck off.  They took me to court for non payment AND I WON

The good old beeb can kiss my fat clown ass :booty:   It riles me that people think they are independent and 'cutting edge'.  They are muppets for the government.  There is a law here, that if you buy a new TV in the shops YOU HAVE TO disclose your name and address and the proprietor HAS TO inform TV licensing...WTF? good old beeb.

I have a TV now.  Like millions of other Brits i am forced to pay the couple of hundred quid licence fee.  Didn't they lock up The Krays for obtaining money with menaces? :zoinks:

Well i am not going to pay anymore.  Actually i am quite gleeful as i watch the Jimmy Savile saga unfold.  Tut tut.   Good old beeb.  I hope this is their downfall.  They are a disgrace.  Good old beeb.

Rant over.  Tomorrows rant is likely to be an attack on  'Bo-Jo'  aka Boris Johnson.  >:D

In Sweden the bastards register everyone who buys a TV, but you simply say that you gave it away to a family member or sold it  :orly:

Poor Brits and Swedes!  Here in the States you just buy your TV and take it home,
and if you choose not to purchase cable or satellite service, you just have shitty reception,
and you can still watch your DVDs or Blu-rays just fine!   :tv:

^Here it is the same except we get good reception and lots of free-to-air channels. Only thing is there are lots of commercials.

As far as I know, we only have one cable company and that is Foxtel.

I don't mind subscriptions.  I want to choose, though.  Not have something forced on me... well not the BBC anyway.   :P

I always thought the fee concept was strange.  Once back in the 80s I saw a news story about it that included enforcement officers walking about with hand held yagi antennas to determine if people who didn't pay where watching TV then banging on their doors demanding payment as you described, it all seemed very disturbing and  Big Brotherish to me.

You don't even need a TV in order to be prosecuted.  A simple computer capable of receiving it is all you need.  It doesn't matter if you watch it or not.  In the UK you can go to prison for failing to pay the fine.

So, you could quite easily receive a custodial sentence for failing to pay a fine of upto a thousand pounds for not actually watching TV but just because you use a computer capable of broadcasting TV.  That is just so repressive and big brotherish and so damn wrong.

It is now emerging that well respected producers are coming forward to reveal that they tried to alert bosses at the beeb that all was not well in the Jimmy Savile dressing rooms.  They were told 'that is just the way it is'.

IMO the BBC have been using public funds in a scandalous manner.  Paying huge salaries to people like Savile and turning a blind eye to his pedo activities, some of which occurred on BBC premises.

They have enjoyed a respectable world wide reputation for too long.  They are out dated, poor value for money and i really hope this will be their downfall.

I want to choose too! I don't mind the BBC but that's because the BBC is a choice. The Swedish National Television OTOH...

I think it's wrong that you can be presecuted for just having a computer that's capable of showing tv

I do like the BBC tho becuase there are no ads

I probably wouldn't bother watching eastenders if it had adverts on it
