I don't like the "level with you" system - that's why I use FCOM for Oblivion, means at level one you can encounter truly evil stuff (Like Wyverns!), but at level 30 you've still got a chance to come across Fur-and-leather Bandits.

i hate it

the whole POINT of leveling up, is that you beat the shit out of things better. why else level up at all?
why get stronger, if everyone else also gets stronger?
that way, you didnt get stronger at all, you just wasted a bunch of time :/

i truly love FO2, and Morrowind, in those games the BIG monsters were confined by far-away lands.
Sure you could just stroll that way as a level 1 but it was suicide.
you'd have to level up significantly, THEN man up, and check the really dangerous parts out

And of course, if you're good, or clever with a bow, you can still kill a Wyvern (Think skinny dragon that doesn't breath fire, but has a nasty poison sting on the tail) at level 1. But finding Bandits in Daedric or Glass armour at level 23? Bollocks, if they can afford that shit they can afford a fucking comfortable lifestyle.

haha reminds me of a FO3 save i had, where a deathclaw spawned right outside megaton from my FIRST visit there and it naturally made a habit of re-spawning there on each exit...
i only had to exit megaton 4 times, and all my travelling merchants were meat...

and yes, bandits in spectacular epic armor also bugged me a lot.

on another note, this is the first time im playing FO3 on a higher difficulty, and i cant help but piss myself off at the fact that a raider can take like 30 bullets RIGHT TO THE FACE, and still charge me difficulty-or-not, i think thats lame

I am addicted to Fallout 3 again. I started a new game last night on Normal difficulty after reinstalling it and now I am heading towards Germantown. Holy shit, this combat system is really flawed!

It is almost impossible to avoid enemy fire. You could be facing off a Raider, armed with a Chinese Pistol while you are armed with a Chinese Assault Rifle, and unless you use VATS or are lucky, you're going to probably use up half of your bullets and have half of your health drained by the time the motherfucker is dead! It doesn't make any difference whether you just stand there and shoot like a 10 year old does, circle strafe to avoid gunfire, or crouch behind a barricade. The fucker still lands 20 or so shots with his pistol from half a mile away while you are struggling to get in a shot with your mockery of an AK-47, even if you have the gun pointed right at him! It just feels so random whether shots hit their target or not. And it just so happens that the AI's shots hit you more often than your shots hit them! Sorry I cannot out-aim a fucking aimbot! Even if I could, I'd still lose at least a quarter of my health to the cheap AI's accuracy and your game-induced lack of accuracy. This is NOT difficulty, it's BULLSHIT! This is BAD video game design, because there is virtually zero skill involved in the combat system. It's a fucking gamble! Better stock up on your stimpacks or turn the difficulty down if you want to have a chance, Mr. Video Game Expert!

The saving grace of such a cheap combat system is the VATS. And you can use it often enough. But come on, I feel so stupid that I have to slow down the game to a halt... just to be able to play it!

i aggree w mud, once again,
but i realized that on normal mode, your forced to be a lot more tactical using cover than otherwise. you cant outrun bullets..
however, they can outrun bullets like theyre neo or something :b

but yeah, its bad design. like i said, on normal mode, i stomp clip after clip right into their faces, and they just laugh it off.
this is on normal mode, normal should be a bullet to the head and theyre gone (at least as good as gone... ). extra-bonus-fucking-difficult could allow for them to eat lead and laugh it off.
it annoys me.

im at level 20-something now, and basically every weapon i use is useless. ill spend an average of 100 assault-rifle rounds on average enemies i encounter.
super mutant overlords, ghoul reavers, and albino scorpions, on normal, past level 20, ill spend hundreds and hundreds of rounds, ill spend entire rifles...
twice i had to just flee like a bitch, and let my robot handle it

Alchemy is a fantastically insanely broken skill.

My method was use lockpick magic. I can't play this game all the way through yet, as I get so addicted I do little else. I probably have to create a schedule beforehand and set an alarm on my cell phone. Even then I may lack the deiscipline to stop myself from playing while knee deep in the game.

Loved Mass Effect 1/2 so far myself.

Fallout 3 was too fucking easy really.

It was. Required little thinking but I liked that. It did suck me in for a while and I had to quit cold turkey due to doing very little else.
