Autie-detect mode
« on: April 27, 2012, 07:24:29 PM »
Anybody else notice this?

I seem to have a sort of 6th sense, namely the ability to sniff out my own kind from miles off, just from talking to them. I don't need ever to have met them, talking via MSN, or other IM client is enough.

Queers are said to have 'gaydar', the ability to detect a fellow puff.

This is something like it. If someone I am talking to is spesh, and doesn't say so, I very often get a gut feeling about them. It happened today...I was talking to a researcher doing a dissertation on auties/aspies and their response to MDMA and/or psilocybin. She specifically stated in her intro thread over at AFF that she was NT. After talking to her for the first time my spidey sense started 'a'tingling about her. And some questioning revealed the existence of a family member who is 'almost autistic', along with synaesthesia, sometimes stimming, intolerance to gluten, hyperfocuss, as well as looking very, very young for her age. She turns 47 tomorrow, but could easily pass for half that, or possibly even less if she specifically tried, with the right clothing, hair style, makeup and the like.

Likewise, my autie ex GF and soul-mate looks younger than she is, and an old school        friend laura, wh the label of 'LFA', IIRC shes a couple of years older than I am (I'm 26), yet she could pass for 13-14.

Found that all out quite some time after my autie-detecting version of a geiger counter started clicking away like crazy.

And another sign...I find her very attractive. There is very little chance I'd ever have the hots for an NT :eyebrows: might well add that last sign to the DSM

This has worked for me when I was doing my uni preparation course. I didn't even talk to him, I saw him talking to others and knew from that. Then I overheard him say something about social skills and got up the courage to ask him outright. He was an extroverted autie who liked being with others so this made him stand out to me a bit.

When I go to my autism group there are often a lot of "staff" there from the Autism Association and other agencies. I can easily pick them out from the autistics.

Lol I've had the opposite happen to me at an autie association I've been to, mistaking a lass that was introducing herself for staff, when in actual fact, she was spesh.

I have definitely gotten a feeling about a few people I have met IRL.  :apondering:

I can make friends and influence people with my mind, so yeah. I can spot one pretty easily.  ;)
