It seems to be rare here. A friend of mine did jury duty once about 10 years ago. That's the only time I've known of anyone to do it.

I wouldn't like to do it now, going to college is too important to me.

I have had to go and sit at the court house twice,  once nobody picked me the other time I was got a  excused  for family reasons

The town I'm in falls under two different counties. Basically one side of the river is one county, stand on the other side...and your in a different one.

Once when my wife was called she was picked and went to the next stage where they ask questions to see if they really want you on the jury.  The case was one of some inter city kid arrested in some sort of drug sting and was claiming it was a set up,  prosecutors must have thought she was perfect(white, middle class, school teacher from the suburbs)  and then they asked her if she thought the police would ever lie and make up evidence to which she promptly said yes.  Needless to say they didn't pick her for the jury

Funny, though. It just occurred to me that I probably know more about UK laws than Sweden's these days. A consequence of working for a UK legal publisher.
