It can be difficult, with friends. If they took poker fairly seriously, offering your winnings back to them would be almost the worst insult, if they hadn't understood why you were so doing, hence the 'you don't get it' bit. Ah, well

That is it entirely. They were keen poker players and gamblers. Quite successful betters on the horses. In so far as they would win more than they lost and each bought bits and pieces (cars, fridge, bike, etc from surpluses. They liked poker but were not as good as that.

Nevertheless, they took their gambling pretty seriously, then? Never got into horses or much else, that seems too much like just luck but I know enough about poker, without being THAT serious about it.... herp
