I am donating my old mini-van to Goodwill - still runs great, but has some rust along the bottom. They are finally picking it up, tomorrow. It took me a while (basically a horrid winter - I just could not go out and clear my tools out of a car when the temps were mostly below zero Fahrenheit) to get it ready to present.
It is finally going to deserving hands.
I found that when you donate a car to Goodwill, you can choose a location (I chose my local Goodwill Chapter) or you can donate it to "the corporate machine" which will simply auction it off at a large center designed for such endeavors.
Once you donate to your local chapter of Goodwill, all the local employees get first dibs on the car. Not that I ever want to see it again, but if I can help a local family who could use a decent car for cheap, then I am well served by my donation.
It is not a piece of shit, but it does have some rust and one of the rear wing windows has quit working. It runs great, has a recently replaced battery, brakes, water pump, half decent stereo (way better than most), three quarters of a tank of gasoline and it rides more comfortably than my Escalade (though not quite as quietly).
I just hope someone who needs a dependable car finds it and can use it.
