What shouldn't people 'JOKE' about?

I think "offensive" should pertain to how bad the joke was, not the topic or context of said joke.

TBH, I don't usually find any subject to be off-limits, but occasionally something won't appeal to me. Whether or not it was funny can make a big difference.

For instance, a racist, or homophobic joke is cool in the right context, and if it's funny. In the wrong context, and if it's not funny, I can find it boorish.

I have told more than my fair share of jokes that I would consider boorish, so I'm in no position to take the high ground.




A silly example off the top of my head, a story that made a bit of news recently was the story of a footballer who made a joke on twitter about the gay rugby player Gareth Thomas.
He said something along the lines of "I wouldn't want to be in the bed next to him."

I didn't think that was funny at all, and it appeared pathetic and boorish to me. Not because it was a joke about gays, but because it was such a feeble attempt at humour, and just came accross as homophobic.
If the joke had been clever and funny, I would have found it funny.

Mmm, I gauge it by how high tempers are flaring and whether anyone's going be badly hurt, rather than any specific joke. The same thing said to one person could be really funny and to another could be cruel.

I would prefer jokes not to be about offensive stuff,  but the trouble is they seem to be the funniest.

Just don't joke about Allah and his beloved Nabi Mohammad. Even if it's a PG-rated joke.

For me almost anything goes.. but it depends two tads how serious the joker takes themselves. If s/he can mock her/himself in a total ridiculous way other topics are okay as well, I reckon. Grains of salt and such..

Oh, and I have a long history of offending others (without fully grasping what I said offended s/o at that moment). Phew, folks and their little dicks (Dutch saying about people who are easily offended).

 I have laughed at footage on TV of people falling down in the street, being hit in the
 groin by golf balls, stuff like that.  I know it's not nice but it just makes me laugh!

I thought it was about folk getting too easily stepped on their dicks. And somehow, you need to have a dick with a huge ego, for that to happen.
