tech heads?
« on: January 15, 2012, 04:46:36 PM »
i need some inspiration for a short sequence im writing
im quickly and superficially describing a privately owned, relatively cheap flying machine
its futuristic, so its an ion-motor based propulsion, one manned vehicle

what features would such a machine posess?
what type of problems would there be? what would likely require a lot of maintanance, repairs?
anything i can use to elaborate a little bit, im not wanting to write up and down about it, i just want to keep what little i mention, somewhat realistic

mostly for myself to keep a good "base image" of it in my mind

Let me be the first to say, "You lost me at tech."  Srsly, I'm not good at that shit, but good luck.

Ah, the penis would naturally be the joy stick?

Because it squirted in you eye or because it's too small to be seen clearly?

PS - Sorry your thread got derailed (not)

Zegh, i remember - and this was probably close to 10 years ago - you told me you once that you saw a chair with a penis attached to it sitting in a storefront window. yo found it very hilarious and went on to describe someone sitting on while drinking their orange juice, reading the morning paper

I have no idea why I remember that, but ever since you mentioned it it has been my dream to own one

I would think of car options as far as comfort and normal things like navigation the more basic the model the less it would have.  Safety for something that flies would be very important for the person flying and the people on the ground.  It might have only autopilot or preprogramed routes with features including hacks to allow greater control and speed.  An idea for in a crash instead of air bags some sort of impact absorbing foam briefly fills the cabin then dissipates.  The ion engines would need to be powered by something and power can always be problematic; over loading, poor or dirty contacts, energy leaks.  I would assume ion engines would have to be properly aligned and cleaned to keep the thrust going where you want it or they would use a lot more power to get where you want which could significantly reduce range and speed. I am very much the held together with baling wire and duct tape with safety features disabled  kinda guy Will post more if you like.

thanx a whole bunch :]

and yeah, its kindova wire-and-duct-take scenario i have in mind. background is a tundra-dweller, in a foreign culture, foreign planet, far into a future where ion motors are seen as mundane and outdated, something someone can tinker with in their back yard.

i would see something depending on use as having a flat bottom and a front that angles up somewhat curved to a flat top. skis on the bottom, fairly long. and as far as problems go, dont know much about ion thrust or even how you could make it work but i could see a huge problem with carbon buildup on the parts that come into contact with the ion as i assume its high heat and that could possibly depending on how the engine is designed lead to critical failure of specific parts if not properly cleaned off/replaced as far as parts said, if it flies rather fast turning would be an issue unless you planned on dieing. so depending on how futuristic you want to go we could go with the F18 option and have G-suits or even enertial dampening systems in the car that has effects on the entire vehicle making sharper turning more possible [no idea what you want]. if your looking at more of a wire and duct tape scenario you could describe outer shell to be crudly welded togeather-- or even riveted togeather out of metals and scraps

something along the lines of what i had envisioned. versitile shape as you could replace one of the storrage compartments or even both with human transport, it is a fairly big vehicle though as it seems most of are cold climate stuff is, other than snow mobiles and skis that is.

if theres bees in the trap im catching them, by the thorax and abdomen. and sanding there stingers down to a rough quill. then i dip em in ink and i scribble a bit, and if the wriggle than i tickle them until they hold still, let me say it again, in my land of pretend, i use bees as a mother fucking pen!

thanx for the input
i didnt think of the high speeds involved. i circumvented that in my other scenarios, by having them travel in machines that would "correct" gravitational forces, but this machine most certainly would not, requiring a suit.
as for exterior design, i went for a mini jet airplane kindovan idea, where it uses wings with the engines mounted to them, but similar to a fighter jet, the wings are rather short.

skis vs wheels got me thinking just now. in a cold scenario, skis would be good for snow - where wheels would be catastrophic, but in summer the skis would scrape against the sandy ground

well glad we could help, i still think high amounts of carbon buildup should be thrown in there. but thats probably because its the only idea i have not ripped off of sy-fi shows and/or logic. XD
