Oh, damn.  I've been reading his Vanity Fair articles about his cancer battle.
He fought so hard and suffered so much, I am sorry he's gone.  :(

In memory of his wittiness and boldness:

And his intellectual thinking (especially when drunk):

RIP Hitchens. Even  on points where I disagreed with him I liked how he presented his arguments. Stephen Fry I know from Bones, had no idea that he is an evangelical atheist.

Can any of the admins split this thread starting from when I first mentioned his death?

I first noticed Hitchens back in about 1988. He was an excellent writer. Too bad the cancer got him.

I'm reading one of his books at the moment. God is not Great. Have to use the dictionary every now and then in order to understand some of the words he employs. But personally he came off better as a speaker rather than a writer (although he did have good writing skills and way to capture one's attention to his words).

I'll definitely miss the boldness he displayed in the face of all those who oppose him.

That is one thing I too have great respect for. To not be afraid to tell the truth as you percieve in and be continually "all in" as it were. No matter if the person you argue with is a higher social standing or insistent or seeking to disclaim you on a personal level for your disagreement. To proudly say "No, this is what i believe and too bad if you do not disagree"

I2 today is not i2 of yesteryear. It is a knitting circle. Those that participate be they nice or asshats know their place and the price to be there. Odeon is the overlord

.Benevolent if you toe the line.

Think it is I2 of old? Even Odeon is not so delusional as to think otherwise. He may on occasionally pretend otherwise but his base is that knitting circle.

Censoring/banning/restricting/moderating myself, Calanadale & Scrapheap were all not his finest moments.

How to apologise to Scrap

Great man

Funny too

I really liked god is not great

I posted this on my facebook status: (a couple quotes I saw off dawkins and stephen fry on twitter, plus one I saw off some random christian twat on the daily mail  :facepalm2: )

Stephen Fry: "Goodbye, Christopher Hitchens. You were envied, feared, adored, reviled and loved. Never ignored. Never bested. A great and marvellous man"

Richard Dawkins: "Christopher Hitchens, finest orator of our time, fellow horseman, valiant fighter against all tyrants including God"

Commenter on the daily mail article: "No idea who he is, but God rest his soul"

You beat me to the punch Cal, I was about to post a topic with this article.

http://usnews.msnbc.msn.com/_news/2011/12/16/9483416-author-pundit-christopher-hitchens-dies-at-62

Hitchens was an unwavering warrior for human rights, freedom of speech and the enlightenment of mankind.

The world is at a loss until someone, who can fill his big shoes, takes up his torch and continues the fight.

He was one of my favorite people living today because he transcended most of the punditry bullshit that inhabits the US right now.  He said what he felt without trying to appeal to anyone and he made not ashamed to be an atheist.
