I had a Management prof who was very proud and happy to get his BMW.  After it spent over 7 of the first 10 months he owned it in the shop, he told us what BMW meant.

I dunno what the procedure is in QLD, but in NSW you have to rack up 120 hours of driving practise in a logbook first.

Used to only be 50 hours

When I got my licence...many years ago, there was no such requirement. I had about 4 lessons and got my licence. Then I learnt to drive, heh. Ps were only for a year back then too. Now in WA I think the requirement is 25 hours logged in a book. 120 hours is heaps and would cost a fortune if you had to do it through a driving school.

 When I was 18 I took driving lessons which were logged in a book.  I got pretty good
 at operating the car, but the instructor had me drive mostly on quiet side streets.
 If I had to negotiate heavy traffic, with all those signals and cues coming at me faster
 than I could even register them much less react properly, I think I would spazz!

Can understand that. I drove in the city recently and went around the block three times before I could turn in somewhere and get a parking spot. Your instructor should have gradually had you driving in busier places. I remember my very first lesson when I was 17 (I later got my licence when I was ready, at 19), my instructor got me to drive on a major highway. I remember sweat dripping into my eyes, I was so freaked out.

 Yeah, I still suspect I'm safer just not driving, but lately I've been thinking I should try!
 It's good that PSP is starting now, I think it's easier to learn when you're younger.
