I still live in the mountains, actually :P Just a little more north

Where I live we have gently rolling hills, not breathtaking mountains.  I could
see myself living in a mountainous place one day, just for that beautiful skyline!

West Virginia has a bad rep because it lies totally within the Appalachian Mountains (read: full of Hillbillies)

Oklahoma got a bad rep in the 1930's during the Great Dust Bowl. Thousands of Okies left Oklahoma and went to California looking for work in agriculture.

Yes, West Virginia has a bad reputation :) I was born in West Virginia and lived there until I was 13 years old :D

It isnt just that it is "the south" or is "Appalachia". Cause even other southern states in Appalachia look down on us. Why ? It is a very poor state. Almost everyone is white. Almost everyone is stupid. It is a haven for rednecks and the kkk. And they talk about 5 times slower than the rest of the country. I fucking hate that place lol.

sounds so lovely :D

to me as a foreigner, this is very interesting cus from outside, america is "a country", but as anybody knows who studies this concept a tiny bit closer, america is actually about 50 countries, many of them similar, many of them not.
in other words
on its own, as totally independent, west virginia would be like... uganda?

50 or more. California could be split into 4 states based on culture/economics.

i TRIED before, but any speculation of "alternative world map scenarios" is near impossible.
take europe for example.
europe could split up and merge and split all kinds of countries, based on language, ethnicities, etc, but it could never please everybody, just like the current situation isnt pleasing everybody,
w america i guess its a bit more easy to just stick to the borders as they are, since after all, at least for the time being, you are all considered the same nationality: americans.
here its allready complicated wether or not lapplanders are norwegians, and they dont even have the excuse of having had their land taken from them, cus we arrived at the same time. only they were dumb enough to arrive through the frozen north  ::)

western and eastern pennsylvania are 2 totally different places.

in the east, there is philiadephia. For the most part, it is a nice place really.

Here in the west, we have Pittsburgh. The shitthole of America. It's one of the most economically depressed parts of the US.

It looks pretty big with nice buildings. I am glad you liked it there.

The uni I go to is apparently the biggest in Australia. But that is probably because 90% of it is bush and farmland.  :D

You have my condolences.

Funny thing is, is that most of my dad's family is from that area.

My dad grew up, in a little town a bout 30 miles east of Baltimore, at the head of the Chesapeake Bay, called North East.

Baltimore is scary.

And it smells :zombiefuck:  On my trip in the spring to Florida we had to roll the windows up in the car on the way down and on the way back as we drove though. Not sure what is going on there but fuck it stunk
