Me by any other name.
« on: October 18, 2011, 08:15:11 PM »
I think most of us disliked our given names at one point or another.  What name do you wish your parents had named you?  This can be a childhood wish or one right now.

I always wanted to be Julie as a child.

Loved the little rascals as a girl and can remember at about five, complaining for not being named Darla. Then in adolescence, a quick bout of not liking my name, but have since gotten over it and like it very much.

I would have liked Rowan.

I sort of like my name. I just wish it was spelled more traditionally. My mother almost named me Rosemarie and I am glad she did not.

For a long time, I did not like the shape of my name. Didn't like the bits that stuck out of the bulk of the word.

I loved a name like marianne, because it was so neatly compacted. Those where the days I didn't like squares and triangles either. Hated the sharp bits. Guess I wanted to be sweet in those days too.

Now I like my name. I like that it is not a too common name either, and the h, the y and the k sticking out in sharp lines, I'm ok with that.

I'm very happy I'm not named Silvia. That was the name of a nasty character in a book. And I have disliked that name for a very long time, because of that.

Hated my name at school.

Why?  It is fucking funny thats why.

Teresa Brown
funny thing is there was a girl in my year called Theresa Green.

So,  Trees are Brown and Trees are Green....get it?

This was not foreseen by my parents when they named me.  Had it
been a deliberate joke on me then i think it would be funnier.

I don't mind it now to be honest.  I even put trees are brown on my
facebook.

We deal with piss taking very well here in scumsville.

I don't mind it, and I've come to the realization that hardly anyone is going to spell it right unless they've known me for a long time.

I remember my grandmother buying me an engraved gold pin when I was 5 or 6, and even she spelled it wrong (my mom said on purpose >:D).

I've found that foreign telemarketers can't even normally pronounce it, funny as hell some days.

My name sounds posh and old-fashioned.  Though at least it's not as bad as my middle name, Martha

To be fair, it's not spelt the English way but the Polish way, Marta, but I still think it's a horrible name.

I don't mind mine and never wished for another.  I am very happy they didn't go with what my father wanted at one point,  Cornelius,  where the fuck that came from I have no idea nobody in the family has ever had it.  There was a time some people called me Griffin which is my middle name using either as a first name or now with Mr attached mostly because it's in the name of my company

I quite like Lorna, but I think Rudge is a slightly ugly surname.

I do not like my surname because it is a girls first name. All my life people asked me which is my first name.

Well my last name may be a first name but my first name is obviously not a last name... people should think before they speak sometimes.

I have always thought my name would suit an older, more sophisticated person. Like one of my lecturers has the same name and it suits her. So I have shortened it to its last half. Which people have trouble with spelling and saying. When I worked people used to call me by my names first half and I hated it but got used to it.

Also used to hate my last name as I got teased about it in school even though it is pretty plain. Now, thanks to GA, I have the most awesome last name. It is Swiss-French and I have to tell everyone how to spell it and say it but I think it sounds nice and looks cool when it is written. It has a q in it and that is a main feature in my signature.

I was talking about my maiden name, which really isn't my last name right now. I use it anyway and it confuses some people. What I have on facebook and most places is my maiden and and would be impossible to find me trying to use that.

My married name is very proper and British and also the name of a city. It will be changed soon enough. If I ever get married again I hope he has an interesting name.
