I am not a huge REM fan but they have put out some pretty good stuff. http://new.music.yahoo.com/blogs/stopthepresses/392260/rem-breakup-has-fans-crying-not-dreaming/ Congrats on 3 decades of success REM.  I liked on Tommy Boy when they were driving and trying to sing along with this.

Good.

not cus i dislike them, but because it takes real integrity to decide that enough is enough.
tooo maaany bands go ooon and ooon, for a whole range of reasons (money being a huuuge reason), and ive often wanted a band to stop, consider themselves fullfilled, and simply quit.
theres other creative stuff an artist can do with his time, other than to chirn out a repetitive album a year.

The Rolling Stones are an excellent example of running what was good into the ground.
