Took Kayleigh to the train station. She's spending new year's with friends watching The Lord of the Rings. I've seen it recently so I didn't want to go. I have to pick her up from there tomorrow because the trains aren't running (lots of track work being done for a new train line).

I did a freaking mountain of dishes. Had dinner, took meds, now it's bedtime.

I did a big grocery shop yesterday and this morning I did my usual Saturday housekeeping stuff. I also did some pressure washing this afternoon. I only got the front half done but that's okay, I'll do the back half next week. I was hoping it could all be a half day job, but since it's not, then it's going to take up two weeks on the new schedule. I've been so busy the past couple of months, I'm ready to commit to Sundays being my ass scratching days.

This year we received a live wreath as a gift. Live wreaths are expensive and something I'd never buy for myself, so it was a very special treat. I tossed it today, it was the last Christmas decoration left. When Sugarbutt saw me taking it down, he said, aaawww. I told him it was turning brown but I'd leave it up for a few more days. He said it was fine to go, but he really enjoyed smelling it when coming and going. However, I have a mental glitch and I associate the smell of pine to dog crap.

They watched half of it yesterday, starting in the afternoon. I don't know how late they stayed up, but they're watching the rest today.

Traditionally I grew up eating cabbage and black eye peas for New Year's dinner, so I usually do a New England boil with some black eye peas on the side. This year I didn't feel like cooking for hours when it's only the three of us, plus I no longer own a crockpot. Instead, I made Ruben sandwiches and fries, with black eye peas on the side. Ruben's are one of Sugarbutt's favorites sandwiches and we haven't had them in ages, so he was super excited about that.

It's corned beef, sauerkraut, Swiss cheese, with thousand island dressing, on rye bread. It's grilled and served hot.

I think they're just ok. Sugarbutt was super impressed his sandwich had the dressing because he's the only one who likes it. I told him, yeah, I bought a whole bottle of thousand island just for the authenticity of his sandwich, now that's love.
