My dogs had a fight and the big one nearly killed the little dog.  OK, it was likely self defence.  Little dog has had surgery and is now home with a drain tube coming out of her neck.  More surgery later in the week.

I pottered about the gardens, tidied up some leaves, scrubbed my front porch, planted some cheap plants I bought the other day, sprayed roundup on the wandering dew out back, light weeding.
I was gonna tidy up the leaves at the back but it's hot and I need to shower and get takeaway dinner before the shop closes.

Just before it happened my wife and I were saying that it was the first month since the epidemic began that we'd managed to not borrow on credit cards and end the month with a couple of hundred left over.  Then BANG a big vet bill arrives.  Such is life.

Various shite - work, grocery shopping, tolerating the neighbour's crap weed smoke and worse music taste, drinking. Rinse and repeat

Spent the day in meetings, mostly. Teams is the plaything of the devil.

Spent some time sifting through the bedroom closet. Was going to save it for last, but attempting to clean the linen closet oddly sparked some conflict, so just moved on and will try it again later. Clothing is the one thing most difficult to discard, even shabby stuff because it can be worn for dirty work or hair dye day. Though how many shabby shirts does one really need? Managed to fill a bag, which is probably good enough for now, since haven't bought any new shirts in over a year.

I was scared something along those lines might happen if we left our kitten with the other two cats. So we've been putting him in Kayleigh's room with access to the bathroom and litter tray. Until today. We left them together with the run of the house. Nothing happened thankfully.

Is that what happened with your dogs? They were alone together?

I was scared something along those lines might happen if we left our kitten with the other two cats. So we've been putting him in Kayleigh's room with access to the bathroom and litter tray. Until today. We left them together with the run of the house. Nothing happened thankfully.

Is that what happened with your dogs? They were alone together?

They were in the house together and me and wifey had just returned from the shops and were coming in the door.  I guess they were both trying to get to us first and things escalated.  They've had a couple of small fights before but this got bad really fast.  The big dog was only an inch away from killng the little dog.  She ripped the side of her neck out, but it could have been an artery or her windpipe just as easy.

Got to take the little dog back to the vet in an hour so she can have the two drain tubes removed from her neck wounds.  If it all looks clean they'll stitch the last holes up and then it's just a wait for her to heal.  The big dog has two runs of metal staples in her front legs which need to come out next week.  She's stopped limping and isn't chewing at them so she should be good.

I can only hope that the little dog hurt the big one enough to make her think twice in future.

Holy crap. Just goes to show how fast dogs can turn on each other. Not unheard of for cats to do that too.
