I have not had time to be here and mention much lately, but about three weeks ago we had a huge failure of trusted cabinetry fall off the wall.
A twelve foot section of six cabinets we had been using, in good faith, as a pantry extension just fell down one day.
We lost about five hundred dollars worth of canned goods and glass canned items like pickles, sauces and jams, but so many crushed cans we had to throw out most of it.
Fell on my desktop computer and trashed the case. Still worked after some goofing with it, but he DVD drive was crushed. Had another, replaced it. Works fine, just ugly. I'm not the best body man when it comes to dents.
Easy to figure why the failure happened. Most of the mounting screws went into plastic wall anchors, instead of directly into solid wall studs. We did not know this!!
Anyway, my plan was to forget cabinets, although they were an elegant touch, and just put up open shelving.
I got all the brackets properly mounted into the wall studs. If I attempt to add up to total capacity of the four, twelve foot shelves, using the large brackets I chose, these shevles will support about three thousand pounds of goods.
That's WAY more than what canned goods will weigh!!
So, today, we got rid of the makeshift, temporary free standing shelf we used for pantry goods for three weeks and got the permanent shelving organized the way Wife wants things to be.
Laddering is a problem for me. Last time I was up much on a ladder we were moving and I fell and broke my arm in three places. Took ages to heal!
Today, I am finished with this episode!
