A je to! (slovak animation, childhood memories)
« on: September 19, 2011, 12:36:46 AM »
nevermind the arabic title, youtube you know

Slovak/Czechoslovak animation from the 80s
the animation is flawless, the details are amazing, the humor is slapstick at its best, even the regular soundtrack is awesome
i could post episode after episode
As often, newer seasons arent very good, and much of the original spirit is lost, but old episodes can still make me cry laughing

theyre also known simply as "Mat & Pat"

an example

i love these guys so much :D

Brings to mind Davey and Goliath, but they talked, though the same animation type.

i saw russian mowgli

stunning animation. a few scenes were a bit stale, and weirdly timed, but otherwise very visually pretty.

i REALLY wanna see "old man and the sea"

i remember the mole
they showed lots of east european animation here, during the cold war :D

whats awesome about a je to is that they were aimed at an adult audience, meaning, by the time your an adult, you can still piss yourself laughing at them :D

We only had dobranocka - which was generally aimed at kids.  My mum said that when she was a child, there were mostly Soviet animations on TV.  I was (un)fortunately born after the Berlin Wall fell.

Although they did use to show a bunch of anime during kid hours even though a lot of it was adult themed haha.  I guess they though that just because it's animated, it's automatically for kids  :P

i see that attitude a lot in southern europe.
since i got spanish family, im very familiar w the spanish comic book "mortadelo y filemon", which is aimed at a very broad audience, mostly teens/adults, it has hints of adult themes, violent slapstick, and many references to current events.
i _litterally_ have to browse through ABC books, to find them. i feel like a fucking creep every time :S
