That's so sweet of the sob sisters. It takes a great deal of caring  to be willing to risk other people's lives betting on "rehabilitation" working on Breivik. Just because releasing McDuff, Kemper, Shawcross, Harris et al to kill even more people didn't quite work out is no reason to hold Breivik more than 10 or 20 years.

I don't think rehabilitation should be an issue here. I don't care if he is ever rehabilitated. He should spend the rest of his life in prison as punishment for what he has done. Rehabilitation is great for thiefs and drug dealars, not for mass-murderers.

short prison sentences is for those who arent _really_ a danger to society, that includes murder (most non-gang-related murders are unique cases, done in affection) etc.

It was quick in that case just like it was for Gary Gilmore and Wesley Dodd, because none of them were desperately trying to not get executed. McVeigh just dropped all appeals. It is that ratio of endless appeals versus people voluntarily waiving appeals that causes me to believe that convicted murderers prefer life in Lewisburg, Florence etc over being killed.
