There's no mistaking a room with a hamster though, unless the cage is cleaned every day.

Yuk.

Maybe an outdoor hamster would be better

Guinea Pigs are cool, and they can live outside.

She wants something furry to love.  (DOWN BOYS, IT WOULD BE STATUTORY RAPE).  I can just hear the squeaky wheel at night (even the quiet ones can get noisy), the "Mom, Hermione (or The-Boyfriend-I'm-Not-Allowed-To-Know-The-Name-Of if male) got loose" cry, etc.

And we just had a 9th request for a hamster.  And ya'll wonder why I'm on Celexa and drink?

Addition:  Yes, it's called Aspergers, loneliness and a parent who gave in too much in the past.  I just want to get some peace and quiet.

Didn't know Guinea pigs could live outdoors. Can they stand extreme temps?

Dont know how extreme they can manage, but I grew up in Scotland, and its quite cold. A couple of my friends kept them outside in rabbit hutches. One half of the hutch would have an open front, but the other half was closed off from the outside, and filled with straw where they would sleep. They seemed hapy enough.

I remember similar smells from my guinea pigs' cages and my landlady's rats' cages!

Mine didn't, so every day I had little presents to sweep off my floor!

Bless you, I don't know how ANY parent does it.  I couldn't, I'd be insane!   :GA:

Salamanders are easy to look after and probably about as much of an allergy risk as fish.

I had two guinea pigs once. One, the male one I got for free from the family up the road, and the other female one I got from a pet shop (a purty abyssinian one)
Turned out the female was already pregnant by the time I got her home. My duo of cavies turned into a family of six :P. I ended up building them a 3x3m cage in the backyard.

Abyssinian ones aren't really suited to outside as they have long hair, long trains of it, and it easily gets clumps and dags in it. All four babies had long fur, it was horrid :(
