does anybody else experience epic constipation following dentist visit/anaesthetics?
i dont know what they gave me, but i know opioids are common in anaesthetics, and that they make you constipated, but for a whole week?

ive never been constipated before, but after both dentist visits, im completely clogged up :I

im going back and forth like 20 times a day, to shit pea-sized pebbles...

I doubt you had general anesthesia, more likely nitrous oxide or maybe twilight sedation?  Even if you did, there are no opiates involved.  More likely you were given an opiate painkiller which commonly causes constipation.

i got several needle injections in my gums
3-4 the first time, 2 the second.

is it normal tho, that the constipation lasts for days?

It's probably the anaesthetics, like you already said, because they can slow down intestinal motility.  You might have looser stools behind the hard dry stuff, so once you can get it out, you may find that you have very loose stools for a while until your system becomes balanced again.

Can you buy laxatives or enemas there?

yes, i notice little... "bursts" of looseness seeping past a huge fat clog inside :I
i guess i can buy laxatives, but just 5 minutes ago... more-than-just-a-pebble came out still only a burst

its been a week now, so... im gonna be patient a day or two more, before i consider any harsher measures.

i got confirmed elsewhere as well that im to expect about a weeks constipation.

Drink lots and lots of fluids,

Muesli, soaked for an hour in fruit-juice, and then with added yoghurt or more fruit-juice can help too.

If you want to eat more fibre, to loosen things, make sure the fibre is soaked, and make sure you chew your food well.

Adding fibre to your diet without drinking lots extra will get you more clogged up. Fibre and lots and lots of fluids may help your system to get going again.





I don't recognise this problem btw. But then, I never got an ordinary local sedation at my dentist. I reacted badly on those sedations at other places in my body, and regular local sedation scares the shit out of me.

One of the things I remember from Michener's novel, Hawaii, was that when the white immigrants were sailing there they were constipated.  The sailors told them to walk a lot on deck.  If you've been less physically active lately that may be contributing to the situation.

I have never heard of lidocaine, benzocaine or novocaine (local anesthetics) causing constipation
