more bad papers to grade.
one student complained that he didn't get anything out of the class - but he didn't hand in 1/3 of the assignments. his last discussion post was a long rant about how psychologists leave christ out of psychology and that's why psychology doesn't work.
i feel bad for the next adjunct who gets him in their class.
meanwhile i have graduate students who have the reading comprehension skills of second graders. my most favorite so far - was on norms. they are supposed to discuss a legal case in which bias created by norms was an issue. it's explained in the readings that norms are created to form a basis for comparing individual scores to the performance of similar individuals - basically standardized scores.
so this student cites a case where a police officer's therapist refuses to reveal the content of therapy sessions. the police officer is being brought to trial after she shot an unarmed man.
the student's answer to the question: "There were norms all over the place."
16 of these to grade and this was from one of the "smarter" students.
