Totally exhausted again, for a change.  :P

Kind of relieved.

And, a bit on my guard too.

Is it physical pain or emotional pain?  ???

I hope you are better now.  I don't get crampy, but I do sympathize.

I'm in pain.

My elbow hurts despite taking two Norco pills, which so far have only made me kind of sleepy.  I have septic olecranon bursitis, which woke me up in pain at 3 AM.  My elbow was red, hot, and swollen, so I went to the emergency room for antibiotics at 5 AM because it got noticeably worse from the time it woke me up.  I took one as soon as I got the prescription filled.

It still got worse and the redness and swelling spread, so I went to see the doctor on call about 3:30 this afternoon because it's my regular doctor's day off.

He prescribed a different antibiotic and I have taken two of them so far.

Hopefully all the antibiotics will kick in and it will feel better tomorrow.

I've never heard of septic olecranon bursitis before.  Is this a one-time thing or does it recur?  ???

I googled it, sounds fairly serious and quite difficult to manage if you're having to use the joint.  I know you'll do what the Docs say.  Best of luck.

I hope that it's going to be a one time thing in my case, but sometimes it does recur.

It's kind of a problem that I'm allergic to so many antibiotics, because the normal treatment would use some kind of penicillin or Bactrim, or maybe even erythromycin but I'm allergic to all three of these.  The first doctor gave me Macrobid and the second doctor gave me Clindamycin.  The ER doctor didn't want to prescribe Clindamycin because he has seen many cases where the Staph or Strep causing the bursitis was resistant to it, but the second doctor I saw today said that he had never used Macrobid for anything other than an UTI and thought that it was an odd choice.

Did you have the bursa aspirated?

The doctor in the ER said that he didn't want to puncture the bursa because it won't seal itself properly, but the doctor on call did aspirate the bursa and sent about half a syringe full of the bursa fluid off to the lab to be cultured.  He told me that it would probably take at least a couple of days to get the results back and that because I had already taken Macrobid, that might prevent any bacteria from growing in culture.
