'm not sure as these will grow, they are 6 years old now...yes, thats how long I've been trying.
I knew it needed a cold shock to get it to germinate, but every time (this is when they were so fresh, the only delay from picking the ripe berries, was the time it took to walk home along the canal towpath I found it growing on.
Apparently they contain some kind of germination inhibitor compound. Do you know if they need to be soaked first? it makes sense that they might be, to wash out whatever is in there)
Real beauty of a plant...actually, I want some (amongst a good few other reasons) to take to a tattoo artist, as I reckon it would make a really good base for some ink work if I can catch some in that stage where it still flowers, yet some berries are ripe.
(don't worry, I would warn them of its properties. Even carrying the stuff home caused significant mydriasis. Should have seen the pupils of my eyes. Although it was a long, long, LONG walk, many hours with nothing to put them in. Lol, I must have looked pretty strange to anybody walking past, carrying an upturned shirt full of the things, plus both hands full, with eyes that would probably have said 'this guy has to be on something' (I wasn't, my usual meds aside)
Since I have sod all to do at the moment, I think I might just hike down there and see if its still growing, cheat, and bring a full grown plant back home, its safe enough here, there is nobody that might eat any living here.
