@ crip
so you are quitting uni - is it because of the high
fees, or because they are saying you owe them
eight hundred quid?
can't you blame them for the reason you did not
complete the year? i dunno, say you couldn't understand the tutor, or make something up!
you have just had a lot of surgery haven't you?
would they be lenient if you said it was due to
pain?
it is a lot of money (£800) and i don't understand
why she should pay for a service, or part thereof, if she has not used it
her tutor would have been paid the going rate anyway, regardless of numbers attending...it
seems a bit unfair.
I quit in January because I couldnt cope and had severe health problems. Well, in January I officially paused my studies and a few months ago I confirmed I was leaving for good. The £800 is an admin fee, 25% of what my tuition fees would have been for the entire year if I had attended. It costs £800 to take my name off their list of students basically. This admin fee something entirely different from the 10k+ of student loan debt (tuition) I have. The actual tuition for the time I was there I'm gonna pay when I start earning 17k or whatever the rule is these days for student loans. I told the woman on the phone I'm on a very low income due to disability but paying £20 a month for four years is the best I could get.
Learnt my lesson though, I'll never return to uni in this country
Makes me feel quite sad at how much of a struggle it is for young people to go on to higher education. It is all wrong IMO. No matter how bad the economy is no government should ever cut education funds. I think we should be putting more money in to encourage more students and do away with fees altogether. It might take a while, but the country as a whole would reap the benefits.
Apart from thinking your £10k debt is wrong in principal, i think you will just have to bite the bullet. The £800, no way! I understand what QV
said about eating in a restaurant, or going to the movies, but they are private businesses and are concerned with profit. Education is something entirely different. I would question this, i would ask
for them to break it down exactly. Demand that they show you evidence that supports their claim. They should not profit from your misfortune.
