I'm trying to prepare 4 cooking pears at the moment. Thought trahlahlah, easy.. Well, yes it is but those suckers take 3/4/5 hours to be properly cooked and ready. Um, it's a little over 7 o'clock in the evening here and guess my dinner won't be served before 10 PM tonight.
Pfff..
That's why I always prepare more than just 4.
Made three kg the other day. Over half of it is eaten by now. About a third is in the freezer. They'll look a little less nice, but, the taste holds pretty good.
What do you use them for? I've never cooked pears before.
Stone pears are too hard to eat uncooked.
When you let them simmer for hours and hours, with plenty of water some sugar, cinnamon, and, if you like, wine, they turn into a dish of sweet soft, beautifully red pears. They can be eaten as a side dish at dinner, or as a dessert. As a dessert, they are marvellous with some vanilla cream, or, the easy way, "vanille vla".
Stone pears are one of the reasons Autumn is such an awesome season.
